Course Scheduling
The Grand Mountain School Course Descriptions manual (listed below) is available for students and families to review to help with course selections.
All students are required to take 4 core classes which include math, language arts, social studies, and science. Additionally, students will enroll in 1 computer science class, 2 electives, and 1 advisory class per semester. All students will automatically be enrolled in their core and advisory classes. Seventh and eighth grade students may select from a variety of computer science classes. If data indicate your student requires intervention in reading or math, they may be placed in a reading and/or math intervention class in lieu of advisory. Students are unable to repeat elective courses already completed.
All students are offered two to four elective classes during a school year. Electives are semester- or year-long courses. Year-long electives such as orchestra, choir, and band take two elective spots in the year (1 fall semester and 1 spring semester). Students can take beginning choir and one instrument class (both are year-long courses) during an academic year. However, students will not be able to take two instrument classes during the academic year unless recommended and authorized by the teacher.
Courses have limited seating. It is important for students to choose their most desired electives first. However, students are encouraged to select up to 4 alternative electives, which they may be placed in should their preferred courses not be available. Students who do not submit a Schedule Request will have their schedule created by the counseling team.
